EDUCATION PROGRAM

At Windmill, we often have the privilege of being (one of) a child’s first experiences in the theatre. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. Our Education Program includes a range of opportunities to engage with our company, including dedicated schools’ performances for all South Australian seasons, free study guides and resources and a variety of experiences for deeper engagement with our work, our artists and our creatives.

WORK EXPERIENCE

WORK EXPERIENCE

Each year, we offer work experience opportunities to South Australian students in Year 10 and 11. Placements often coincide with production rehearsals to give students a rich experience of what it’s like to work within an Australian theatre company. Students will learn from each department, observe rehearsals and assist with production-specific tasks, reporting to the Associate Producer.

Applications for work experience are currently closed.

Professional learning

Professional learning

Windmill hosts professional development workshops for educators periodically throughout the year.

Free seats program

Free seats program

Windmill’s Free Seats Program provides 15% of seats in every performance season free of charge to South Australian schools ranked 1 – 4 on the Department for Education’s Index of Disadvantage. It’s a longstanding program we’re super proud of. One that allows more young people to experience our work, regardless of circumstance.

Access and inclusion

Access and inclusion

At Windmill, we want to ensure that theatre remains accessible and caters to the needs of young people from all over South Australia. Access services, including Auslan interpretation and audio description, are available upon request to all schools’ performances.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Everywhere Windmill wanders we walk softly, we speak respectfully, we hold integrity, we collaborate and create while honouring the truth of reconciliation and the true history of this country.

We know that the land on which we create our work is sacred. We know there were many tribal family clans here before us and we now sit beside them. We acknowledge the tribal family clans who are known today as the Kaurna Meyunna, the first peoples of this place. We respect all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from across this sacred land which is known today as Australia.
